Platelets are formed from their precursors, megakaryocytes, derived from stem cell cultures.
Based on a physiological process that occurs in the blood circulation, megakaryocytes are captured in the channel of a microfluidic chip and elongate in the flow, to give rise rapidly to platelets. This approach is unique to ensure high production yield and preserved platelet functions.
Combining world-class expertise in megakaryocyte and platelet biology as well as microfluidics paves the way to large scale platelet production.
